It's Election Day! How was your voting experience?
I'm a permanent absentee, so I filled out my ballot last night and hand-delivered it today while Yod was getting his vote on. I wish I had photocopied my ballot before I filled it out. I took way too much pleasure voting No on Prop 8 (the one that enforces hypocritical Puritan laws on homosexual couples by taking away their right to enter into a legal contract with one another called "marriage") and wish I could've just sat there tonight filling in the NO circle over and over.
There were no lines at the polling place, which, in Sacto, tends to be at some retirement home/"adult living complex". I'm nervous for the results to come out. Hopefully the rest of America isn't as crappy as Yod assumes they will be...
While driving, what's your biggest pet peeve?
Submitted by Alexandra
Hmmm this is a tough one. There are two that drive me batty.
- The Roving Roadblock: Cars going about the same speed drive along, blocking all lanes of traffic to that speed. You think one is about to speed up or slow down so you can get by, but alas, it catches back up to the roadblock. No matter which lane you choose, you cannot get around.
- Lazy Turner: Cars that must slow down to 5mph to turn right, or cars that cannot accelerate past 5mph to turn left.
I can feel my blood pressure rising just talking about them...
What misconception about the place you live bothers you the most?
Submitted by Jessmiloo
I hate that people say that my area of Sacramento is "conveniently located". It is in the middle of a freewayless region and getting to the freeway means travelling along congested roads with 40mph speed limits for at least 3 miles of annoying lights, each of which can run as long as 2 minutes. This is not convenient!!
What one trait do you wish more people around you displayed?
Submitted by Ross
Awareness.
I wish people would be more aware of their surroundings and how they impact those surroundings. Awareness of their actions and the possible repercussions of those actions. Awareness of other people in the world, or even just on the same stretch of highway. I just wish people would open their eyes and become aware of the world outside their own microcosm.
What sound can't you stand?
The sound of people chewing and gulping. It just takes a little background music to cover the sound, thankfully. I have to grit my teeth and try to ignore it if there is no music and if I hear the chomping and slurping and lip-smacking of people, it ruins the eating experience. It isn't even the people with no manners... it's people just drinking and eating normally that drives me insane. I blame all this on my father and have learned how to swallow quietly (so I didn't suffer his wrath).
I've tried to break myself of this issue, but, like most sounds, the more you concentrate on ignoring it, the more you're aware of it, which just makes it that much worse. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!
A recent study suggests that radiation from cell phones may cause cancer; what, if any, cell phone usage precautions will you take in light of this information?
Submitted by Tim.
Everything causes cancer: eating, breathing.. living! I'll wait for another study to come along and prove this one false. Or I'll die from a brain tumor. Either way, I'm not going to change my cellie habits... though using a hands-free device is probably better than putting the whole phone up to my ear (assuming that this study is true). I mean, look at all the bunk that is out there about cellies. Yeah, whatever... despite all the warnings posted to gas stations, there has never been a case where someone's cellie started the fire.

What does blogging do for you?
Submitted by Madeleine Rose.
At first, blogging was a creative and emotional outlet. My first blog was supposed to be a "stream of consciousness". That didn't work so well. I'd sit in front of the computer with the cursor blinking patiently, waiting for the words to flow.
When I discovered Vox and the QotD, I had something new to write about and comment on. And as the Intarweb grows, my 'hood contains my b/f, sister, and b-i-l, so now it's about sharing my thoughts with those who care to read them. It's about crafting a story or point of view, then communicating that to a community through a written medium. I don't get my emotional outlet so much anymore, but it is nice to have such a cool neighborhood!! When I feel the need to be creative, vent, or get my thoughts down without the world seeing them, that's what hidden posts are for! :)
So what does blogging do for me? Allows me to put down my thoughts, share them with people, and practice writing in a non-work environment.

What do you daydream about? Is it something far-fetched, or something that might actually happen?
