My sister, christan, has been the Cake Queen for the past few events. She made my Dad's wedding cake, her son's & husband's birthday cake, and my birthday cake. I'm sure that she will continue in this tradition.. I am going to ask her to make my President's Last Board cake next June. She's awesome. Seriously - delicious yummy cake that is soooooo delicious.

By now, pretty much everyone is aware that there are some shagnasty fires here in northern California. Though I'm not in any danger where I live, the closest fire (Paradise, CA) is only a short 80 miles away. My dad sent me some pictures from near there (Redding, CA) on his commute back home.
Why did I title this post "Nuclear Winter"? The smoke is blotting out the sun, cooling the Sacramento valley because the sun's heat and light cannot penetrate the smoke layer.
Yesterday, the high was 101F (38C). At 10:30am yesterday, it was already 88F (31C). Today's forecast calls for 95F (35C) as the high, but it's only 73F (23C). We're 15F off what we were yesterday, and I don't see the temperature rising as fast as weather.com is implying it will. It looks like dusk here, or at the very least, a heavy fog. The sun is glowing a very strange orange-red color. And it hurts to breathe. People are going home with headaches and having difficulty breathing.
According to the Sacramento Region Air Quality Resource, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 201, which pushed us into the top box, "Very Unhealthy". Limited outdoor exposure for healthy adults, no outdoor exposure for children or adults with respitory issues. And it's only going to get worse as the fires continue to burn.

What does blogging do for you?

At first, blogging was a creative and emotional outlet. My first blog was supposed to be a "stream of consciousness". That didn't work so well. I'd sit in front of the computer with the cursor blinking patiently, waiting for the words to flow.
When I discovered Vox and the QotD, I had something new to write about and comment on. And as the Intarweb grows, my 'hood contains my b/f, sister, and b-i-l, so now it's about sharing my thoughts with those who care to read them. It's about crafting a story or point of view, then communicating that to a community through a written medium. I don't get my emotional outlet so much anymore, but it is nice to have such a cool neighborhood!! When I feel the need to be creative, vent, or get my thoughts down without the world seeing them, that's what hidden posts are for! :)
So what does blogging do for me? Allows me to put down my thoughts, share them with people, and practice writing in a non-work environment.
